"We have opened an official investigation against Dudakovic ... on suspicion of committing criminal offences that qualify as war crimes," Jurcevic told reporters in Sarajevo, adding that a few other people were also under investigation.
Jurcevic said that the investigation was launched based on a report and evidence provided earlier this year by the Ministry of the Interior of Republika Srpska, the Serb entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Bosnian Serb authorities consider Dudakovic responsible for crimes allegedly committed by his troops during Operation Storm in Croatia and later during Operation Sana in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Jurcevic said that the State of Bosnia-Herzegovina should draw up a nationwide strategy to address the issue of war crimes more seriously.
The State Prosecutor's Office is currently dealing with 13,000 war crimes cases and it is estimated that it might need ten years to complete them.
