ZAGREB, Sept 13 (Hina) - The Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS) feels the government's bill on the financing of political parties is trying to deal with this issue only in a declarative fashion, especially because it does not

ZAGREB, Sept 13 (Hina) - The Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS)
feels the government's bill on the financing of political parties is trying to
deal with this issue only in a declarative fashion, especially because it does
not regulate the financing of election campaigns, which is the biggest issue,
HSLS vice president Zlatko Kramaric told the press on Wednesday.
"The bill is trying to resolve the problem only on a declarative level. It does
not deal with corruption and lack of transparency," he said.
The financing of political parties must be subject to control
mechanisms and election campaigns limited so that parties with more money will
not be in a more favourable position, said Kramaric.
The HSLS is looking forward to the government's announcement of the
adoption of a voter list law, which Kramaric said was one of the conditions of
a fair electoral race.
He added that fair elections also called for the establishment of a
state election commission as a permanent and professional body which would
monitor and hold elections independently of anyone.
