The event, to last until Thursday, gathered health experts from 53 European countries, including Croatia.
WHO Regional Director Marc Danzon said that the meeting would focus on a more efficient fight against noninfectious diseases such as cancer, heart and other cardiovascular conditions, which account for 86 percent of mortality cases in Europe.
The meeting will also address the European strategy of tobacco control, the progress of countries in the control and prevention of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, as well as less dangerous diseases such as influenza and obesity.
