An explosive device that went off early Friday morning severely damaged the grave of the late Bosnian President Alija Izetbegovic in Sarajevo, leaving a 70 centimetre deep crater and damaging tombstones in the immediate vicinity, according to the preliminary results of an investigation carried out by local police in cooperation with the Office of the State Prosecutor.
According to available information police have very few leads because there are no direct witnesses and surveillance cameras that were set up at the Kovaci cemetery in Sarajevo last year, were shut down for repair two weeks ago.
Oslobodjenje daily said the police were searching for one suspicious vehicle that was seen near the cemetery just before the attack.
The Party of Democratic Action (SDA) held an extraordinary session late on Friday, saying that the attack on Izetbegovic's grave was an attempt to destabilise the situation in Bosnia.
Party members called for preservation of peace.
