SARAJEVO, Aug 11 (Hina) - The Steering Board of the Peace Implementation Council (PIC) in Bosnia-Herzegovina, which consists of representatives of the most influential Western countries and Russia, on Friday condemned the mining of the grave of the late Bosnian President Alija Izetbegovic and warned local politicians to stop using inflammatory language which has resulted in growing tension in the country.

After a meeting, held at the level of ambassadors from the countries constituting this body, a statement was issued noting that local police were expected to investigate the attack on Izetbegovic's grave and find the perpetrator so he could be put on trial.

The ambassadors urged local politicians to stop using inflammatory language and warned that their task was to ensure a stable political atmosphere and build tolerance.

Serving justice is not a task for Bosnian politicians or politicians from neighbouring countries, reads the section of the statement on discussions about responsibility for war crimes, prompted by recently broadcast footage in the Serbian media.

The Steering Board said that the investigation and punishment of war crimes, including those committed in Operation Storm, was a job for the judicial authorities in Bosnia-Herzegovina, which are expected to do it in cooperation with the judicial authorities from neighbouring countries.

The Steering Board welcomed Thursday's meeting of prosecutors from Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia and the possible prosecution of people who committed crimes in the area of Dvor na Uni as the first step on that road, urging the prosecutors to do their job as soon as possible.
