Serb entity president expects urgent investigation into crimes committed during Storm

BANJA LUKA, Aug 6 (Hina) - Republika Srpska (RS) President Dragan Cavic has urged judicial bodies in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia to urgently investigate and punish those responsible for crimes committed against Serbs during Croatia's 1995 Operation Storm, Banja Luka's Nezavisne Novine daily said on Sunday.

Cavic was speaking in the wake of an amateur video shown simultaneously on Belgrade's TV B92 and Bijeljina's TVBN on Friday evening showing members of Bosnian Army unit Hamze and Croatian Army unit Black Mambas killing captured Serb civilians and soldiers as they were leaving Croatia on August 7-8, 1995, after the operation which liberated parts of Croatia until then occupied by Serb rebels.

According to the daily, Cavic said he expected the international community to react the same way it did when footage was shown of crimes committed by members of Serb unit Scorpions in the Srebrenica area.

"The international community reacted quickly after the Scorpions video was shown and they were arrested in Serbia and in Croatia. I expect the same action and reaction when it comes to crimes against Serbs that can be seen in this footage," he said, adding he expected competent institutions in Bosnia and Croatia to arrest the Hamze and Black Mambas members who committed crimes.

Cavic announced that next week, when the European Commission's ambassador Michael Humphreys visited Bosnia, he would forward the video to Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn, Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, and European Union High Representative Javier Solana.

The president of Bosnia's Serb entity also said he believed the Hague war crimes tribunal had sent the video in question to Bosnian institutions but that there had been no reaction at all.
