ZAGREB, July 20 (Hina) - The State Prosecution has moved a
proposal for the relevant court to order the detention of war crimes suspect
Branimir Glavas in custody after he made public the minutes of an investigation
launched into his role in 1991 war crimes against civilians in eastern
Croatian city of Osijek. The motion is based on the prosecution's opinion that
Glavas, a member of parliament, has exerted influence on future witnesses by
having published the minutes. An investigating judge of the Zagreb
County Court, Zdenko Posavec, told reporters on Thursday that he had received
the prosecution's proposal and that he would decide on the matter in the coming
24 hours.
According to the explanation given by the prosecution, although he is
not allowed to do it, Glavas has publicly revealed the contents of the
interviews of the first two witnesses who were questioned on Monday during the
investigation against him.
Glavas, a local official in Osijek, is charged by the prosecution with
the harassment of three Serb civilians and the murder of another two in that
city.
