Mesic says Montenegro's independence logical consequence of Yugoslavia's disintegration - daily

BELGRADE, July 14 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic told Belgrade-based daily Vecernje Novosti of Friday that Serbia, Montenegro and Croatia had already launched new processes in the Balkans and that Montenegro's independence was a logical consequence of the disintegration of Yugoslavia.

According to Mesic, the European Union will be a new integration factor for the countries of the region.

"Wars are the fault of political options and regimes, and war crimes are the fault of individuals and groups. This is why we must individualise guilt," the Croatian president said, asked if the peoples of the former Yugoslavia could forget what they did to one another in the 1990s.

"We must cooperate. Serbia, Montenegro and Croatia have great opportunities to show to the world and Europe that they can end a war and turn to the future," Mesic said, adding that he was not worried that Kosovo's possible independence could affect the status of the Bosnian Serb entity.
