SARAJEVO, July 11 (Hina) - The bodies of 2,636 Bosnian Muslims
killed after the fall of the eastern town of Srebrenica to occupying Serb
forces in July 1995 have been identified to date by DNA testing conducted by
the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), the Sarajevo-based
organisation said in a statement on Tuesday. The ICMP said it had
blood samples for 7,789 victims of the Srebrenica massacre provided by their
family members for DNA identification.
The bodies of 505 recently identified victims were buried in the
Potocari Memorial Centre outside Srebrenica on Tuesday as part of a ceremony
marking the 11th anniversary of the massacre.
The ICMP said it had in the meantime identified another 120 bodies, but
that they were not buried today because not all body parts had been found and
family members had decided to wait until further body parts were recovered
before burial.
