SUBOTICA, July 3 (Hina) - Two ethnically-motivated incidents happened in the Serbian province of Vojvodina on Sunday, when some hooligans burnt a Croatian flag and when unknown perpetrators sprayed a plaque containing the name of the Croatian Cultural Society 'Vladimir Nazor'.

The flag was burnt in the capital of Novi Sad during a waterpolo game between teams of Serbia and Croatia. Local media reported that a group of (Serbian) fans sat down and booed while the national anthem of Croatia was played. Later on those hooligans set the Croatian banner on fire.

The Croatian National Council in Serbia (HNV) reported on Monday that unknown perpetrators had painted over the words 'Croatian' and 'Vladimir Nazor' at the plaque of the local cultural society representing Croats a few hours before the society in question started its annual convention in the town of Sombor.

The HNV issued a statement expressing hope that the incident would remain isolated and that it would not ruin inter-ethnic relations in that town in northwestern part of Vojvodina.
