European Commission doesn't think that Croatian fishing regulations are disputable

BRUSSELS, Jan 22 (Hina) - The European Commission does not see anything disputable in Croatia's new rule book on fisheries boundaries as that documents notes that it will stay in effect until the procedure for determining the border between Croatia and Slovenia is completed, the office of the spokesperson for European Union Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele said on Saturday.

The Commission is acquainted with reports on the publication of a map as a section of the new Croatian rule book on fisheries. We understand that the map contains note that the presented boundary is provisional until the final border demarcation, the office said in a statement.

It also recalls that in November 2009 Croatia and Slovenia signed a border arbitration agreement which recently took effect.

The bilateral international agreement provides for the appropriate framework for settling the border issue, it added.

Slovenia has delivered to Croatia a protest note over Croatia's new regulations on fishing area boundaries in the Croatian Adriatic. The Croatian Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development has already informed the public that the new regulations do not prejudge the border solution.
