Czech president supports Serbia's EU membership bid

BELGRADE, Jan 20 (Hina) - The visiting Czech President Vaclav Klaus said in Belgrade on Thursday that Serbia could count on his country's support on its road towards EU membership, warning that the admission to the EU could also carry certain disappointments.

Upon his arrival in Belgrade for an official visit to Serbia, Klaus held talks with his host, Serbian President Boris Tadic, and later gave a lecture at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

In his speech at the academy, Klaus spoke about his country's experience with economic transformation, integration into European institutions, and difficulties in those processes.

The Czech president was also awarded the status of an external member of the Serbian academy.

On Thursday afternoon, Klaus presented the Serbian-language edition of his book on Europe and the European Union at a library in the Serbian capital.
