ZAGREB, June 25 (Hina) - Croatia's Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic on Saturday addressed a panel discussion at the Crans Montana Forum in Monaco on the topic of expansion of the European Union to Southeast Europe, the ministry said in a statement.

Grabar Kitarovic said that it was important to continue giving Southeast European countries a clear European perspective on the basis of their individual achievements in meeting the membership criteria.

She noted that the policy of EU enlargement was one of the most successful EU policies, which she said was evidenced by positive political and economic assessments of the 2004 enlargement round.

The minister went on to say that reforms were being implemented in the process of integration with the EU primarily for the sake of the public and that it was therefore of special importance to acquaint the public with the advantages and disadvantages of EU membership.

Croatia is ready to convey its experience in the integration process to countries covered by the Stabilisation and Association process, the minister said.

She recalled Croatia's presidency of the Southeast European Cooperation Process (SEECP) and its initiative for the enlargement of the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA), as a model of regional economic cooperation meant to prepare the member-countries for participation in the EU market, which has received wide support, including from the European Commission and the Stability Pact.

During her stay in Monaco, Grabar Kitarovic also opened Croatia's Honorary Consulate, to be headed by Honorary Consul Jean Kerwat. The opening ceremony was also attended by Monegasque Foreign Minister Rainier Imperti.

The Croatian minister also met Monaco's Prince Sovereign Albert II and invited him to pay an official visit to Croatia. The two officials discussed the expansion of bilateral relations, notably in direct investment, tourism and environmental protection.

Monaco has been providing assistance to Croatia in mine removal and environmental protection.

Grabar Kitarovic thanked Prince Albert II, as a member of the International Olympic Committee, for his support to Croatian projects so far, and called on him to support the organisation of the 2013 Mediterranean Games in Rijeka.
