EREVAN, June 18 (Hina) - Croatian Finance Minister Ivan Suker met International Monetary Fund Managing Director Rodrigo de Rato in Erevan, Armenia on Sunday for talks on the overall economic situation in Croatia, with an emphasis on the implementation of a stand-by arrangement signed with the IMF in August 2004, the Finance Ministry said.

De Rato commended Croatia's macroeconomic achievements and congratulated the government on a successful implementation of a programme supporting Croatia's chief macroeconomic and structural goals.

Suker informed de Rato of Croatia's further intentions and plans in the economic policy, also within the context of drawing closer to the European Union, of plans to continue with health reforms, the restructuring of the shipbuilding industry with the World Bank's expert support, and of the forthcoming privatisation of the oil company INA and Croatian Telecommunications.

The two officials were agreed that the first successful conclusion of a Croatia-IMF stand-by arrangement could be expected this November, and underlined the importance of further Croatia-IMF cooperation.

Suker and de Rato met at a conference of 12 member states of the Dutch Constituent of the World Bank and the IMF of which Croatia is a member. The two-day event closes today.

IMF and World Bank executive directors informed the finance ministers and central bank governors of the 12 countries with the topics the two institutions will address at their annual assembly in Singapore in September.
