The Union is determined to support Croatia in its efforts in meeting the Union's standards and commitments for membership, including the Copenhagen Criteria and good relations with neighbours, according to conclusions from a summit of presidents or prime ministers of EU member countries which ended in Brussels on Friday.
The European Council recalled in its conclusions that current membership negotiations are based on the negotiating country's own merits and that their speed will depend on the country's progress in preparations for membership, including the meeting of demands from the negotiating framework and commitments from the Stabilisation and Association Agreement and the Accession Partnership.
The European Council encourages Croatia to continue with reform efforts so as to achieve sustainable progress in meeting EU standards, the conclusions read.
