On Monday and Tuesday representatives of the European Commission spoke to Croatian and Turkish negotiators about the European legislation in this policy chapter. The bilateral stage of the screening for this chapter will be held on July 17 and 18.
EC officials spoke about electronic communications, a strategy for the development of the broadband Internet, regulations on telecommunications, safe use of the Internet and protection from illegal contents, and the EU audiovisual policy.
Croatia's negotiator for this policy chapter, Miroslav Kovacic, said that Croatia was doing well with regard to its regulations, but that it would need to do more to strengthen the role of independent regulators.
By the end of the year Croatia will have to amend the Law on the Electronic Media, and possibly the Law on the Croatian Television.
With regard to information society, Croatia will have to adjust a smaller part of its legislation to EU directives regarding the electronic signature and electronic trade.
