Imports growing faster than exports, says Central Bureau of Statistics

ZAGREB, May 31 (Hina) - Croatian exports grew at a higher rate than imports in this year's first three months, but by the end of April their growth rate was lower, according to provisional figures the Central Bureau of Statistics released on Wednesday.
ZAGREB, May 31 (Hina) - Croatian exports grew at a higher rate than imports in this year's first three months, but by the end of April their growth rate was lower, according to provisional figures the Central Bureau of Statistics released on Wednesday.

Croatian exports in this year's first four months were 17.4 per cent higher than in the corresponding period of 2005 when expressed in the national currency and 10.6 per cent higher when expressed in US dollars.

Imports went up 18.2 per cent when expressed in kuna and 11.3 per cent when expressed in USD.

Exports in January-April this year amounted to 18.68 billion kuna or USD3.07 billion, while imports were 38.92 billion kuna or USD6.4 billion.

Expressed in euros, Croatian exports in this year's first four months were 2.54 billion and imports were 5.4 billion.

The foreign trade deficit at the end of April reached 20.23 billion kuna, or USD3.33 billion or EUR2.76 billion.

The export-import ratio was 48 per cent.
