ZAGREB, May 31 (Hina) - The NATO Parliamentary Assembly
unanimously adopted a declaration at its spring session in Paris expressing
support for Croatia's aspiration to join the alliance as a full member and
explicitly citing 2008 as the year when Croatia could expect an invitation to
join, the head of the Croatian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly,
Kresimir Cosic, said on Wednesday. "Three hundred and fifty
parliamentarians unanimously adopted a declaration supporting Croatia,
Macedonia and Albania in their efforts to join NATO, encouraging further
reforms and expecting invitations to be sent in 2008," Cosic said at a press
conference in Zagreb, stressing that it was a very important document.
He quoted NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer as saying that
Croatia, Macedonia and Albania, as members of NATO's Membership Action Plan,
were the most serious candidates for alliance membership and that the North
Atlantic Council was receiving encouraging reports on their progress in the
reform processes.
