DUBROVNIK, May 4 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic met NATO's Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Security Policy, Martin Erdmann, in Dubrovnik on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters after the closed meeting, Mesic said that their talks focused on NATO's transformation and Croatia's ambition to become a full member of the alliance soon.

"This ambition is feasible. NATO membership is our strategic goal and we believe we will succeed in the reforms. After we complete our part of the transformation process, we expect an invitation to join as a full member. We cannot be sure if that will be in 2007 or 2008 (...); it all depends on us," the Croatian president said.

Erdmann said that Croatia was not yet officially a member of the alliance, but that it would certainly become one.
