Draskovic for urgently eliminating obstacles on Serbia's path to EU

BELGRADE, May 13 (Hina) - Serbia and Montenegro Foreign Minister Vuk Draskovic said in Ravna Gora on Saturday that obstacles on Serbia's road to the European Union must be immediately eliminated.

Addressing about 15,000 gathered at the annual meeting of the Serbian Revival Movement, Draskovic accused the Serbian government of putting Serbia in a situation where it depended on one man.

He said things should have been done faster, regardless of what "the forces of the past" thought of reforms, but did not mention even once the name of Ratko Mladic, the fugitive Bosnian Serb wartime military leader wanted by the Hague war crimes tribunal. Some of those in attendance wore T-shirts with Mladic's image.

"For Serbia to resurrect fast and easily become the leading country in this part of Europe, we in Serbia have to realise that there cannot and must not be any individual who obstructs and is above Serbia... No one must have the right to destroy Serbia, close its road to the future and put the entire Serbian people and state on international arrest warrants," said Draskovic.

Another meeting took place at Ravna Gora today, also dedicated to World War Two Chetnik leader Draza Mihailovic, but organised by the Serbian Democratic Reconstruction Movement, which was founded by Mihailovic's grandson Vojislav after clashing and parting ways with Draskovic.

This year's meeting at Ravna Gora was not not officially endorsed by the Serbian government, as was the case last year.
