ZAGREB, May 27 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Saturday sent a letter to Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono extending condolences on a disastrous earthquake which hit Java on Saturday claiming the lives of
close to 2,000 people.

extending condolences on a disastrous earthquake which hit Java on Saturday
claiming the lives of close to 2,000 people. The letter of
condolence was handed to officials at the Indonesian President's office by
Croatia's Ambassador in Jakarta, Aleksandar Broz.
According to the latest information of the Indonesian government, at
least 1,970 people were killed in the earthquake measuring 6.2 degrees on the
Richter scale, which hit the Indonesian island of Java today, with the
epicentre near the ancient town of Yogyakarta.
The Croatian Foreign Ministry reported that there were no Croatian
nationals among the victims.
