During a seminar for reporters covering the defence sector, which took place in the eastern town of Gasinci, Simonovic said a long-term plan for the development of Croatia's military should be finished by the end of June.
According to the draft plan, Croatia will purchase 126 new armoured vehicles, a squadron of combat aircraft and four new Navy patrol vessels.
According to the long-term plan, in 2015 Croatia will have about 16,000 active servicemen and about 4,000 reservists.
As of 2009, the military budget is to reach about two percent of Gross Domestic Product with the projected growth of GDP of about four percent.
Participants in the three-day seminar were informed that about 1,000 Croatian troops would be deployed in peace missions worldwide until 2012.
