First Deputy High Representative Lawrence Bulter cautioned the prime minister of the Bosnian Serb entity, Milorad Dodik, of this today, the OHR said in a statement.
The U.S. ambassador asked Dodik for an explanation following some media reports alleging that Dodik was speaking about new referendums in the region.
Butler told Dodik that Republika Srpska had the obligation to honour the 1995 Dayton peace agreement, saying it was internationally binding and recognised Bosnia and Herzegovina as a sovereign and independent state.
Local officials are obliged to work for the benefit of Bosnia's future and not speculate about events which are not related to their country, the OHR said, adding that Butler clearly said there was no connection between events in Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
