PODGORICA, May 26 (Hina) - The leader of the Socialist People's
Party (SNP) and of the unionist bloc in Montenegro, Predrag Bulatovic, will
resign from his post after the Montenegrin Referendum Commission announces the
final results of the referendum showing that Montenegrin citizens have opted
for independence, the Podgorica-based Vijesti daily reported on Friday. This is Bulatovic's firm decision despite opposition from his closest
associates, the daily said quoting a source close to the party leader.
"Bulatovic will announce his decision early next week. He is aware that
Montenegro is already independent because it is realistic that the Referendum
Commission will turn down their (the unionists') objections regarding the
referendum results," the source said.
Bulatovic said that he would not appeal with the Constitutional Court
against the Commission's decision because that would degrade the European
Union, which is represented in this case by Slovak diplomat Frantisek Lipka,
chairman of the Referendum Commission.
