Speaking at a reception he gave for the British Ambassador, Sir John Ramsden, Split Mayor Zvonimir Puljic said that Split had always been part of Europe and had a long tradition of excellent relations with the sister-city Dover.
The British and Split are connected mostly through the shipping industry and the British generally take pride in their shipping tradition, Puljic said, voicing hope that Great Britain would continue advocating Croatia's admission to the EU.
He stressed the very good cooperation between Split University and British universities, which he said would definitely improve with the introduction of the Bologna charter.
Speaking in Croatian, Ambassador Ramsden thanked for the warm reception in Split and called for intensifying programmes of exchange between Croatian and British universities.
The Split event will include a seminar, exhibitions, and sports and music events.
