Over the next four days scientists and experts in nuclear energy from 27 European countries will be discussing the prospects of nuclear energy in the world, particularly in the context of climactic changes, and alternative energy sources.
The conference was organised by the Croatian Nuclear Society in cooperation with the European Nuclear Society and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
According to the IAEA, 441 nuclear power plants are in operation round the globe -- most of them in the United States (109), followed by France (59), Japan (54), Great Britain (31) and Russia (30).
Croatia and Slovenia share the Krsko nuclear power plant, which has been in operation for 23 years.
