PODGORICA, May 22 (Hina) - A total of 219,683 constituents voted for Montenegro's independence, while 176,515 voted against, Referendum Commission president Frantisek Lipka said on Monday, underlining that the small number of uncounted ballots could no longer significantly alter the referendum's results.

Lipka told the press that 45 polling stations had not been processed yet, mostly in Podgorica, or 25,000 ballots which account for five per cent of the vote.

The turnout was 86,3 per cent, with 55.4 per cent voting for independence and 44.6 per cent for the state union with Serbia, according to the first official and preliminary results released by the Referendum Commission.

Lipka said the Commission had not received even one complaint about the referendum process and that the final results could not be published before the expiration of deadlines for submitting and replying to complaints.

Later today, press conferences will be given by international observers and the leader of the sovereignist bloc and, according to current results, the referendum winner, Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic.
