Mesic said that in Europe, apart from integration forces, there also existed centrifugal ones.
We are faced with narrow national views, someone will say with nationalism, both on the political and on the economic front, said Mesic, adding the world was faced with a situation in which the logic of profit had not only prevailed over, but also defeated the logic of solidarity.
I do not want to say that everything European is sacred and infallible, but I must warn that there are very important fields in the world of today in which only a common policy can offer better answers than individual, national policies, Mesic said, calling for a common policy against the negative effects of globalisation.
The Varna conference, which is being held behind closed doors, was opened by Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov. A press conference will be held after the meeting.
