OSIJEK, May 18 (Hina) - The Osijek County Prosecutor's Office issued a statement on Thursday describing as incorrect media reports saying that no criminal proceedings against persons responsible for war crimes had been launched in
Osijek, stating that indictments had been filed against 350 persons for war crimes against civilians and prisoners of war and the destruction of property since 1991.
OSIJEK, May 18 (Hina) - The Osijek County Prosecutor's Office
issued a statement on Thursday describing as incorrect media reports saying
that no criminal proceedings against persons responsible for war crimes had
been launched in Osijek, stating that indictments had been filed against 350
persons for war crimes against civilians and prisoners of war and the
destruction of property since 1991. The Office said on its web site
that it requested the investigation of 788 persons for war crimes between
mid-1991 and May 2006, and that indictments were filed against 350 persons,
while charges were dropped against 424 for lack of evidence.
Ninety-nine persons were found guilty, while 122 were acquitted or had
charges dropped against them. Another 129 persons are still on trial.
The Office said that it continued to investigate events and the
responsibility of individuals for war crimes committed in Osijek-Baranja
County.
