ZAGREB, May 11 (Hina) - The accuracy of claims that Constitutional Court Judge Vice Vukojevic raped a woman prisoner of a Croat Defence Council (HVO) detention camp in Bosnia should be established at the State Prosecutor's Office, the majority of the parliamentary Committee on the Constitution and Rules of Procedure agreed on Thursday.

The committee thus took a position on a demand by Vesna Pusic of the People's Party (HNS) that it initiate proceedings to temporarily suspend Vukojevic while competent bodies examined if the rape accusations were founded.

The committee rejected a demand by Dragutin Lesar of the HNS that it press charges against Vukojevic, after which Lesar said that "Pusic will do so tomorrow as a citizen".

Referring to the Constitutional Law on the Constitutional Court, chairman Drazen Bosjnakovic said that "despite the monstrous accusations" the committee was formally not competent in this case.

Emil Tomljanovic of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) said that Pusic, as a member of the parliamentary Presidency, should have referred her demand "where it is due".

Independent deputy Slaven Letica described Pusic's gesture as entirely unfair, reproaching her for lack of civic courage to press charges against Vukojevic herself. He suggested that the committee declare itself not competent in this case and that Pusic's request be referred to the State Prosecutor's Office.
