The Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREPER) decided in Brussels on Wednesday that Croatia and Turkey should be invited to present their negotiating positions on the chapter.
Education and culture will be the second chapter after one on science and research for which Croatia will be invited to present its negotiating position.
There is a chance of the talks on this chapter opening at the next accession conference, which is due to take place in Luxembourg on 12 June. Before that, the European Commission has to draft a common EU negotiating position, which has to be accepted by the member states.
The Croatian government has already prepared its negotiating position on the education and culture chapter.
