Croatia is preparing a new law on environmental protection which will include all EU directives and regulations from this chapter, Croatian negotiators said in Brussels on Monday afternoon.
The new law will be an umbrella law comprised of the existing Croatian laws and directives from the EU acquis communautaire section on environmental protection, negotiator Nikola Ruzinski and Nenad Nikolic said at the start of the seven-day explanatory stage of screening.
The environmental protection chapter is one of the most extensive sections with over 300 directives and regulations, and it is regarded as one of the most demanding topics due to its complexity and required financial investments.
Ruzinski said that Croatia was planning to invest about 10 billion euros into waste management and water protection in the next 20 years. He added that it remained to be seen whether this time term should be cut.
