Addressing the ceremony, Jewish community leader Ognjen Kraus said that despite positive trends in the world Jewish communities were still targets of "racist and political anti-Semitism."
"When the Iranian president denies the Holocaust and calls for the destruction of Israel, there is a realistic danger of a new Holocaust," Kraus said, adding that there was concern for Israel's future following deterioration in the political situation after Hamas won the Palestinian elections.
Kraus said that relations with other religious communities in Croatia were good and that no anti-Semitic incidents were recorded in the country.
The ceremony was attended, among others, by the Minister of Science, Education and Sport, Dragan Primorac, and representatives of the Office of the President of the Republic, the Parliament and the Islamic community in Croatia.
