During his tour of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), established by the UN Security Council, Annan met top ICTY officials, including President Fausto Pocar and Chief Prosecutor Carla del Ponte.
Pocar informed Annan about measures taken by the ICTY within its exit strategy.
"The Tribunal President, Judge Fausto Pocar, conveyed to the Secretary-General the most recent measures taken towards implementation of the Completion Strategy including enhanced cooperation with domestic courts in the former Yugoslavia and referral of cases," reads a press release issued on the ICTY web site.
"The Secretary-General and the Prosecutor discussed the activities of the Office of the Prosecutor, in particular the necessity to obtain the arrest and transfer of Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic as soon as possible," the release says.
"The UN Secretary-General reiterated the need to ensure that all the remaining suspects are transferred to the ICTY as part of the international community's efforts to end impunity," it adds.
