ZAGREB, March 27 (Hina) - The Croatian government will present a national development strategy soon, Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said after regular consultations with President Stjepan Mesic on Monday.

The consultations were held at the government headquarters, with Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks in attendance.

"The government's task forces have completed the strategy and it will also be presented to social partners," Sanader said.

Commenting on media reports about new employees and higher spending of his office, President Mesic said that reporters had published unverified information.

He said that he would make available information on the spending of his office, adding that his salary had not gone up since the start of his first presidential term, and that the number of presidential advisors had been reduced from 20 to seven, of whom three did pro bono work.

Mesic said that newspaper reports about the spending of his office were part of an orchestrated campaign against him.

Sanader and Mesic also commented on the new law on the security and intelligence system. The law incorporates all positive elements of EU legislation and changes will therefore not be needed after Croatia is admitted to the EU, Mesic said.

Sanader added that there had been no misunderstandings between him and President Mesic and that they together had set up the task force which drafted the law.

Sanader reiterated that the government did not intend to sell an 18% share in pharmaceutical company Pliva. "We have nothing against any investor, but Pliva's development is exceptionally important and we will oppose any attempt to relocate Pliva out of Croatia," he said.

Sanader also informed Mesic and Seks about last week's meeting on EU enlargement in Brussels, saying that a Croatian delegation would soon participate in a European People's Party convention in Rome. "The EU has its own problems, but I believe that Croatia will not be affected by them and that our EU membership is unquestionable," Sanader said.
