Participants welcomed a government-sponsored migration policy strategy for the next two years, but criticised it for concentrating too much on "police topics" such as the prevention of illegal immigration and border control, instead of on the integration of foreigners and the targeted immigration of highly-educated labour.
Wilfried Buchorn of the UNHCR said that Croatia should be more benevolent to asylum seekers considering the fact that all 632 applications filed to date had been refused.
Although the discussion was organised by the Presidency of the Croatian Parliament, MPs did not participate in the debate.
