Covic said that Pliva was among leading pharmaceutical companies on the world market, citing research and development and competitive production conditions as its strategic priorities. He also mentioned a non-binding proposal from the Icelandic firm Actavis to take over Pliva.
Mesic said he supported the government's position not to sell its stake in Pliva, stressing that Pliva was one of the best Croatian companies which also established its name on foreign markets. He noted that Pliva was an important economic factor in Croatia not only for the development of national industry, but also for ensuring a stable supply of medicines for the Croatian market and health system.
