Monument unveiled at site of mass grave in Glinska Poljana

GLINSKA POLJANA, Nov 19 (Hina) - A monument commemorating 17 civilians from Glinska Poljana and the nearby village of Jame, who were killed by Serb rebels in 1991 and 1992, was unveiled in that village 60 kilometres south of Zagreb on Friday.

The monument was erected at the site of a mass grave. Attending today's ceremony were delegations from the Office of the Croatian President, the parliament and the government as well as local authorities.

According to figures released by the government, 143 multiple graves from the Homeland Defence War have been unearthed in 10 counties. Most of them are in Vukovar-Srijem County and in Sisak County, where Glinska Poljana is located.

The list of those who went missing during the war in 1991 and 1992 now contains the names of 1,024 unaccounted-for people. In Sisak county, 238 people are still on that list.
