SDSS presidency responds to criticism drawn by party leader's statement

VUKOVAR, Nov 9 (Hina) - The Presidency of the Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS) has stated that the process of reconciliation, which this Croatian Serb party deems as one of the most important planks of its political activity, "would be neither complete nor permanent if Croatia did not hear about the experiences of Serbs in the first half of the 1990s and if Serbs' suffering was not recognised and awareness not raised about responsibility for that suffering".

"The traumatic Croatian-Serb relations, notably those referring to the war trauma and war experience" should be addressed without a dogmatic and propaganda-like attitude, the SDSS Presidency said on Tuesday after holding a session in Vukovar amidst strong criticism provoked by SDSS leader Vojislav Stanimirovic's interview in the Belgrade media about the beginning of the war in eastern Croatia.

Neither the SDSS Presidency nor the party's president make any difference between the victims of war crimes committed against prisoners of war from the Vukovar Hospital and they condemn all of those crimes, the party presidency said in a statement.

Therefore statements about how many wounded people and how many soldiers there were in the hospital should not be interpreted as lack of respect for the victims but as an attempt to present "relevant facts necessary for solving the remaining uncertainties in connection with the victims", the party said.
