ZAGREB, Jan 23 (Hina) - Croatian Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks on Monday received the chairman of the Chilean Senate, Sergio Romero Pizarro.

On that occasion Seks said that the visit of Romero Pizarro opened "a new page of parliamentary relations between Croatia and Chile".

Romero Pizarro, who was on an official visit to Zagreb, recalled that Chile had been the first Latin American country to recognise Croatia's independence.

Chile has a 150,000-strong community of emigrants from Croatia or those whose ancestors came from Croatia.

The Croat community gives a great contribution to the life of that south American country and is a strong link between the two friendly countries, the Chilean official said adding that Croats have their representatives in the executive, legislative and judicial branches of the authority as well as in culture, education and business circles.

Seks agreed that the Croat community was an important bridge between the two countries that could contribute to the enhancement of economic and cultural bilateral ties.

The Sabor Speaker said that the two countries had developed excellent political relations but they should work more on the development of economic ties.

Romero Pizarro invited Seks to officially visit Chile, and the latter gladly accepted the invitation.
