ZAGREB, Jan 11 (Hina) - The Council of the Bosniak National Minority in Zagreb on Wednesday evening gave a reception on the occasion of one of the most important Muslim holidays, Kurban Bayram.

The guests were addressed by the Council's president, Tarik Kulenovic. Apart from the head of the Islamic community in Croatia, Mufti Sevko Omerbasic, the reception was attended by representatives of other religious communities in Croatia, leaders of national minorities and the ambassadors of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Turkey and Iran.

Mufti Omerbasic said that Kurban Bayram bore witness that Christianity, Islam and Judaism came from the same ancestor, Abraham, adding that two important characteristics of the holiday were pilgrimage and sacrifice.

Haziz Alili greeted the guests on behalf of the Islamic religious community in Zagreb.

The reception was attended by the Auxiliary Bishop of Zagreb, Vlado Kosic, who chairs the Council for Ecumenism and Dialogue of the Croatian Bishops' Conference, the president of the Zagreb Jewish Municipality, Ognjen Kraus, a representative of the Serb Orthodox Church, Milan Topic, the head of the government's Office for National Minorities, Aleksandar Tolnauer, and the parliamentary deputy of the Bosniak minority, Semso Tankovic.

This is the first time a Kurban Bayram reception was organised in Zagreb.
