ZAGREB, Jan 10 (Hina) - Managers of the Croatian Plinacro company and the Austrian-Italian consortium Habau-Ghizzoni on Tuesday signed an agreement on the construction of a section of a gas pipeline between the northern Adriatic town of Pula and Karlovac, 50 kilometres southwest of Zagreb. The agreement provides for the construction of the 53.8-kilometre-long section "Bateli-Marcelji", and the value of the works is 104 million kuna.

The entire gas pipeline is 190 kilometres long, and it will be necessary to invest some 90 million euros in the whole project.

In order to speed up its construction, the gas pipeline has been divided into four sections.

The Austrian-Italian consortium won the international tender for building the second section.

The work on this section should start in February and end in July.

Plinacro's chief executive, Branko Radosevic, announced the completion of the entire pipeline in October this year.

On behalf of the Austrian-Italian consortium, Karl Trauner pledged to finish the second section within six months and the consortium had also given a financial guarantee for high-quality construction and compliance with the terms and conditions of the agreement.

The consortium also pledged to employ mostly Croatian workers for this job.
