ZAGREB, July 5 (Hina) - All Croatian prosecutors have received
specialised training as part of a EUR 1 million twinning project under the
European Union's 2003 CARDS programme to prepare themselves for challenges
Croatia will face with accession to the European Union, the head of the
European Commission Delegation to Croatia, Vincent Degert, said at a press
conference in Zagreb on Thursday marking the completion of the project. The training of 627 prosecutors was conducted in cooperation with French
and Spanish colleagues and experts from the law schools in Zagreb, Rijeka and
Split. A group of 44 prosecutors underwent special training to be able to
conduct specialised seminars for domestic prosecutors in the future.
Chief Public Prosecutor Mladen Bajic and Justice Minister Ana Lovrin
said that the project was important for the development and efficiency of the
Croatian justice system.
Degert recalled that an efficient and professional judiciary was
crucial for EU entry.
The twinning project was carried out by the French National School for
Magistrates (ENM) and the Spanish Centre for Judicial Studies (CEJ).
