LJUBLJANA, June 26 (Hina) - Tjhe Slovene Parliament's commission
supervising the work of intelligence services on Tuesday heard former Slovene
Prime Minister Anton Rop in connection to his claims that the in 2004
Slovenia's intelligence wiretapped Croatian PM Ivo Sanader's telephone
conversations with incumbent Slovene PM Janez Jansa, at the time the leader of
Slovenia's opposition, over border incidents in Piran Bay in the northern
Adriatic, and that Sanader and Jansa agreed those incidents. During
today's interview, Rop reiterated that Sanader and Jansa agreed the incidents
in Piran Bay in 2004.
In a recent interview for Slovene Radio Television ROP said that the
SOVA intelligence agency in the election year 2004 taped a number of
conversations between Jansa and Sanader during which the two officials agreed
when incidents in Piran Bay would occur. Both prime ministers dismissed Rop's
claims.
The Slovene parliamentary commission for the control of intelligence
and security services interviewed Rop behind closed doors. After the talks, Rop
told reporters that the interview was successful and that a serious
investigation would be launched after which many things would be much more
clear.
"The documents have existed and I believe that they still exist," Rop
told reporters supporting his own claims.
He said he did not go public with these documents before the last
elections in Slovenia so as to avoid causing harm to Slovenia's reputation.
