Commenting on the opposition's reactions to the operation which saw six Croatian Privatisation Fund officials arrested for taking over 800,000 euros in bribes, Sanader said in a state television interview the reactions reflected envy and impotence as the opposition had been incapable of fighting all the challenges in Croatian society as successfully as his government.
"We are moving on," he said, adding that the reactions also reflected "a little fear".
Asked how much the operation was a success of the government and how much of the State Prosecutor's Office as an independent body, Sanader said that Maestro had involved the State Prosecutor's Office, the Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organised Crime, the Interior Ministry, and intelligence services.
He recalled that the State Prosecutor's Office was an independent body under the Constitution, but underlined that it was part of the state administration that must combat corruption.
"This is our common battle. Everyone is doing their job within the national strategy and the determination to eradicate corruption and organised crime," Sanader said, adding that courts had not been involved in the operation and would take over now.
He went on to say that six million kuna had been set aside for such operations and that there would be more similar operations.
He said taxpayers should know that everything set aside for such purposes would be returned into the state budget.
