Opening the three-day event, Croatian Chief of Police Marijan Benko said that international police cooperation was one of the most important instruments in fighting international organised crime.
He said that because of its specific geographical position, the southeast of Europe was suitable for various criminal activities, notably people trafficking and the smuggling of drugs, cigarettes and alcohol.
SEPCA president Milorad Simic from Serbia said that building a new, more democratic atmosphere in the region would create conditions for better connection between police services and a more efficient fight against crime.
