Speaking on Croatian Radio, Seks said he was the only HDZ member who congratulated Milanovic on his election and that he did so as he would run against him in the fourth constituency, where Milanovic is expected to head the SDP slate and Seks the HDZ slate during parliamentary elections in the autumn. He voiced confidence that the HDZ would win in said constituency.
Seks said that recently the SDP, notably its presidential candidates, had been incessantly attacking the HDZ government, calling it corrupt and asking for the dismissal of ministers. When that reached an extreme degree, the HDZ decided to show the numerous scandals in which former SDP ministers and members were involved, he added.
Speaking of the SDP's demands for the dismissal of Transport Minister Bozidar Kalmeta and Interior Minister Ivica Kirin, Seks described them as malicious and mean, fabricated scandals without any foundation aimed at discrediting HDZ officials.
Asked to comment on racketeering allegations against Kalmeta's driver, Seks said he could not believe that a chain of command going up as high as the minister and the premier was being established just on the basis of suspicion of a criminal act, without even an investigation having been launched.
Seks said Kalmeta enjoyed the full confidence of Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and the HDZ.
He went on to say that another fabricated scandal aimed at discrediting HDZ officials was the SDP's request that parliament set up a commission of inquiry to investigate if Minister Kirin had requested, without a court order, a probe to established who posted videos ridiculing him on YouTube.
Parliament will hold a debate on the request which will result in a fiasco for the SDP, said Seks.
He went on to say that he was informed that Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) deputy Ruza Tomasevic would apologise to deputies today for saying that some of them were connected to the drug mafia by Pero Trgovcevic, who represented the HSP at a session of the parliament presidency which assessed Tomasic's statements as inappropriate.
After the radio-show aired a statement in which Tomasic said she had no intention of apologising as members of the public had written and spoken to her about some government members' connection with drug circles, Seks said that letters and words were not sufficiently convincing evidence to level such fierce accusations at deputies.
