According to a statement released by the Prosecutor's Office on Wednesday, the 12 are suspected of torture, inhumane treatment and murder of 70 civilians in Lovas from October to November 1991.
The Prosecutor also requested detention for the 12 arrested suspects -- four of whom were members of the former Yugoslav People's Army, while the rest served in Serb civilian or military authorities in the occupied village of Lovas or were members of the Serb paramilitary unit "Dusan Silni".
The Prosecutor's Office and the Military Security Agency have interviewed over 50 persons, gathering a sizable body of evidence against the suspects. Some of the evidence has been obtained through cooperation with the Croatian State Prosecutor's Office, the statement said.
