BRUSSELS, May 3 (Hina) - NATO's Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) in co-operation with Croatia, the host nation, will hold a consequence management field exercise in May 2007.

"The Exercise Idassa 2007 will be a Croatian contribution to the Partnership Work Programme (PWP) for 2007. The exercise will primarily be conducted as an EADRCC and Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Unit (EADRU) activity involving the Civil Protection Committee and NATO Military Authorities (NMAs) in the planning. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA) will also be involved in the preparation and the conduct of the exercise," the EADRCC centre stated.

"The exercise will take place from 19 to 24 May 2007 in Zadar County, Croatia. It will also include a training programme and a tabletop exercise to be held on 20 May 2007, followed by three days of field activities. On 24 May 2007, a demonstration will be given by participating teams."

The event will involve about 40 national expert teams trained to manage extraordinary situations and over 120 observers.

"The scenario for the field exercise will focus on response to an earthquake and chemical incidents in an industrial seaport as well as a terrorist threat using biological agents on board of a passenger plane," according to the statement.
