Operation Flash began at 5.30 am on 1 May 1995 and ended next day in the afternoon. In 36 hours 500 square kilometres of Serb-occupied territory of Western Slavonia were liberated. Forty-two Croatian soldiers were killed and 162 were wounded.
Numerous officials laid wreaths and lit candles at the Central Cross in Okucani, including President Stjepan Mesic, Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks, Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and delegations of the Croatian Armed Forces, the Police Directorate, local authorities, and Homeland War associations.
According to announcement, later today PM Sanader, Speaker Seks and President Mesic will address those present.
Later, at the Okucani Handball Court, Seks is scheduled to open the Homeland War Volunteers and Veterans County Games.
The event marking the anniversary will end with Holly Mass for all killed Croatian Homeland war soldiers and civilians who died during the war. The mass will be celebrated by Mons. Josip Santic.
